History of Gurgaon
Gurgaon has a long history dating back to the time of the Mahabharata, an ancient Indian epic. Originally called Guru Gram, it was connected to Guru Dronacharya.
It was part of the Kuru Kingdom and later became part of the Maurya Empire. During the Mughal and British colonial periods, it was just a small village.
Some important landmarks include the Aliwardi mosque from the 18th century and colonial-era buildings like the Church of the Epiphany.
In 2016, its name was officially changed to Gurugram to honor its historical and mythological roots.
